Overview

Almost all internal tools look the same — they’re made of tables, dropdowns, buttons, text inputs, etc. Retool gives you a point, click, drag and drop interface that makes it super simple to build internal UIs like this in hours, not days.

Read, write and join data, wherever it is. Retool connects to any HTTP API and have a growing library of native integrations to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Firebase, S3, Elasticsearch and more.

Companies like DoorDash, Brex, Plaid, and even Amazon use Retool to build internal tools super fast.

FLEXIBLE COMPONENTS

All the building blocks, for any internal tool.

Whether you're building an app to approve beta signups, or an app to manage deliveries, they all have the same building blocks. Tables,TextBoxes, Dropdowns, etc.

Retool gives you building blocks, which you can assemble into any custom internal tool.

CONNECT TO ANYTHING

Read and write data, wherever it is.

Read data from Postgres, write back via an API. Read some more data from Google Sheets, query it via SQL, then join it to data from Stripe. We support many databases, and any HTTP API.

Because we manage the data fetching and UI, you just have to write the stuff that's actually custom to your internal tool. Like the SQL queries, or the POST requests. Don't worry about storing isFetching in Redux, debouncing duplicate button clicks, etc. We'll handle it.

MICROMANAGE YOUR TOOLS

Track, monitor, and even host all your tools.

We manage authentication, authorization, andaudit logs, all for you. That's the kind of stuff every internal tool should have.

If you're concerned about data security, you can host Retool on-premise, behind your own VPN, in your own VPC, and block all network connections. Contact us to get setup.

Why We're Looking For You

Retool started as a way to address our two co-founders’ obstacles with internal tools and has grown into a company that solves internal tooling for companies big and small across all industries. We’ve done a lot with a little--we have a small but mighty engineering team...as well as a laundry list of features and foundational improvements we want to tackle.

In order to continue our rapidly increasing growth, we need to hire world-class, experienced, and motivated engineers to join our team. We have a lot of things to build and a lot of impact to bring to our customers; you’ll help us get there by owning end-to-end projects, talking with customers, and ultimately supporting the growth of Retool the product and the business.

What You'll Do

Engineers at Retool are product- and customer-focused, and we hope you are, too! You’ll own projects from start to finish working with internal and external stakeholders. As examples, you may improve our new user onboarding experience, work with customers to identify and deliver new features, or strengthen the foundation of our internal interfaces and operations. Because we often make product decisions based on customer feedback, you will have the opportunity to connect with customers to make sure what we’ve built and released has solved their problems. You’ll also weigh in on our product roadmap as the end-user yourself--in fact, you’ll be a part of the meta-team at Retool!

Retool is built primarily in Javascript and Typescript, Node on the backend, and React on the frontend. We’ll look to you to bring your skillset and experience to build within this environment and impact our complex codebase.

You’ll also engage in technical decision-making with the team, participate in sprint planning, and help Retool’s engineering team grow its skillset. To that end, you’ll also play a key role in helping us grow the team through interviewing potential new team members.

Who You'll Work With

At Retool, we work cross-functionally often. As an engineer, you’ll work with designers, customer engineers, and support engineers, as well as the marketing and sales teams. Engineers make a lot of product decisions, and you’ll partner frequently with Design as you scope and build your projects.

We’re a hard-working, passionate bunch who are motivated by collaboration, strong results, and bringing the impact of Retool to our customers. When we’re in the office, we enjoy eating lunch (and occasionally dinner!) together, and we’ve been known to be a little sarcastic. But at the root of it all, we come together to show our customers and not-quite-yet customers how Retool can make them and their companies more efficient and successful.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

In This Role, You Will

  • Improve the UX of the Retool core editor, which involves plenty of interesting problems, both technical (e.g. "how do we implement our drag and drop system in a performant way?") and otherwise (e.g. "how do we handle the pushing of existing components when dragging new components on?").
  • Build entirely new product lines (e.g. an interface to share queries — both SQL, and REST + GraphQL across your company)
  • Debug customer problems + build features for them (e.g. "the Google Sheets integration doesn't support adding rows", and "what's the best way to support that? Via cell ranges, or via a lightweight, home-grown ORM?")
  • Write technical blog posts (e.g. "here's how we implemented role-based access controls") and documentation (e.g. if you build the Google Sheets integration, you will write documentation on how it's used)
  • Help assess and recruit future engineers

The Skillset You'll Bring

  • 5+ years experience in professional software development, ideally some of which you’ve spent in startups
  • Experience owning technically challenging and demanding cross-functional projects
  • Experience across the entire stack, from backend to frontend (and if you have a preference, we’d love to hear it!)
  • Experience in Javascript
  • Experience with cloud based infrastructure like Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Ability to make technical decisions quickly, while looping in key stakeholders, too
  • A customer-first mindset and an interest in talking with customers to make sure what we’re building meets their needs
  • Habit of introspection and understanding what’s helped you be successful in the past
  • Bonus points if you have experience in mentoring other team members, and have previously worked closely with designers

Why We're Looking For You

Our newly-formed marketing team is ready to add a marketing operations guru to our team. We’re looking for someone to own and optimize our marketing technology portfolio, including the selection, implementation, integration, maintenance and adoption of technology. You will play a pivotal role in helping Retool deliver next-level customer experiences by delivering personalized and timely messaging that leads to action. On top of that, you’ll develop a deep understanding for how Retool operates to identify areas where technology and systems can offer an outsized benefit.

What You'll Do

You'll be the mastermind behind our marketing operations strategy and own the day-to-day management of a number of things. You'll own the implementation and maintenance of our entire marketing stack (currently Segment, Google Analytics, Amplitude, Customer.io, Clearbit, Contentful, and Salesforce. Phew.). From email automation to pixel-perfect HTML/CSS-formatted emails and landing pages, you'll drive key outcomes for the marketing team. You'll also lead the charge on our customer lifecycle methodology, while maintaining consistency across our technology stack. There will be a need for documentation along the way as well and end-to-end monitoring of our marketing tech stack to ensure that no customer gets left behind.

Who You'll Work With

We’re a hard-working, passionate bunch who are motivated by collaboration, strong results, and customer impact. When we’re in the office, we enjoy eating lunch (and often dinner!) together, and swapping stories about our previous lives. But what brings us together is the goal of showing customers (including potential ones!) how Retool can make them and their companies more efficient and successful.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

The Skillset You'll Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in a comparable role at a SaaS company
  • Proficiency in marketing automation systems (Customer.io), with a strong understanding of downstream integration with CRM(Salesforce), plus your favorite marketing tools — we want you to own this stack!
  • Proficiency in data analysis/visualization tools(e.g. Google Analytics, Looker, Mode, SQL)
  • Ability and desire to navigate the ambiguity that comes from a small startup team of 30!

Why We're Looking For You

Our goal is to make Retool the way developers build all internal applications. To get there, we have to work closely with developers. We’re fortunate to have this growing community of developers and customers that are passionate about Retool, and we’re excited to grow, deepen, and nurture that community. We need someone to lead the charge!

What You'll Do

As a developer advocate, you’ll spread adoption of Retool by developing content (sample apps, video tutorials, documentation, etc.), and building communities (establishing meetups, attending developer conferences to give talks, etc.). You’ll leverage your past experience giving talks at conferences, writing blog posts, and understanding developer communities to lead the charge in developing (hah) our communities.

We’ll look to you to help us understand the intersection between developer evangelism, education, and advocacy and help define the function at Retool. You’ll set the agenda when it comes to events and content, but will work with other internal stakeholders to get a sense of what might complement our roadmap this year and beyond.

Who You'll Work With

You'll be joining an engineering-driven company and you'll have a lot of opportunity to overlap with end-users of Retool internally: our engineers! You'll also connect with our engineers, CEO, and head of marketing to build a strategy that will help drive Retool and our communities forward.

On a broader note, we’re a hard-working, passionate bunch who are motivated by collaboration, strong results, and bringing the impact of Retool to our customers. When we’re in the office, we enjoy eating lunch (and occasionally dinner!) together, and swapping stories. But at the root of it all, we come together to show our customers and not-quite-yet customers how Retool can make them and their companies more efficient and successful. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

In This Role You Will

  • Generate new ideas on how to spread Retool adoption amongst developers
  • Rank those ideas, and execute on them
  • Champion Retool (both in person and online) by presenting at conferences, writing technical tutorials, and publishing content (blog posts, tutorials, videos, etc.)
  • Build inspiring demos, and sample applications atop of Retool, and present them to the world
  • Gather insights about our products from the developer community, and feed them back to our product and engineering teams

The Skillset You'll Bring

  • Have experience with, and enjoy engaging with developers (at conferences, online, etc.)
  • Have stellar written and oral communication skills, especially in public
  • Are confident and comfortable presenting to different types of audiences
  • Are a strong full-stack developer yourself

Why We're Looking For You

Our customer engineering team is critical to Retool: it drives most of our future growth, primarily by working closely with potential customers, and ensuring customers themselves are successful with Retool. Our customers are primarily engineers and it’s important to build excellent working relationships with our key stakeholders while supporting their needs within their instance of Retool.

Our customer base has doubled over the last year and in order to continue supporting our customers, we need someone like you to join the team to divide and conquer.

What You'll Do

You will completely own the technical relationship with our customers, from getting ramped with their use-cases to helping them troubleshoot. You’ll manage our custom Slack channels with our enterprise customers and check in with them frequently through regular calls and meetings. You’ll also be responsible for training them on new Retool products and features and ensure they’re able to gain the most value from Retool. And as you’ll know the ins and outs of our customers’ accounts, you’ll also drive upsell conversations. Ultimately, we’ll look to you to ensure they are successful and happy building internal apps atop of Retool.

Who You'll Work With

You’ll join our small-but-mighty Success team and partner with other customer engineers to support our customers. You’ll work cross-functionally with team members ranging from support engineering to marketing, and you’ll partner with our CEO and CTO to navigate some upsell conversations.

You’ll be joining a broader team of Retools who are passionate about serving our customers, enjoy collaborating to build an incredibly innovative product, and enjoy spending time together. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

In This Role, You'll:

  • Own the whole customer journey, from end to end (starting a trial => ensuring they are successful even after they purchase)
  • Demo the Retool product, answering questions about Retool, ultimately convincing them Retool is the correct solution
  • Create technical content to demonstrate best practices (e.g. sample apps, documentation, videos, etc.)
  • Suss out the blockers for a customer in adopting Retool, and overcoming them
  • If there are technical limitations in Retool that need solving via code (e.g. a bug, a missing feature, etc.), you’ll build it yourself
  • Serve as the primary, ongoing technical point of contact for our users
  • Answer technical support questions from our customers as they come up
  • Schedule and attend weekly check-ins with our largest customers
  • Help interview and grow the customer engineering team

The Skillset You'll Bring:

  • Experience as a strong generalist engineering
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, various no-SQL databases, APIs, etc.
  • Comfortable coding in Retool’s codebase (React / Node)
  • Previous experience talking with customers and solving their problems
  • Ability to think on your feet, and solve problems during calls with technical customers
  • Computer science or related background
  • Experience managing upsell conversations and navigating contract renewals
