challenge

Why:

COVID19 is wreaking havoc on the short term rental market and Airbnb owners. At the same time, many people are seeking temporary housing because of university closures and general economic instability.

We built a basic "web app" that allows non-technical people to quickly create a webpage for their property to share within their network and community. Our goal is to help people re-position their listing without requiring them to overhaul their Airbnb profile or invest a website. We want to connect people seeking 2-3 month housing with people who can provide it.

How:

Visitors can create a page by submitting an Airtable form on the home page of the website with the necessary information. Form submissions are stored in Airtable. We review each entry to make sure no-one is spamming the system. From within Airtable, we trigger a webhook, which starts an Integromat scenario to create the page in Webflow. The scenario creates an item in Webflow, updates the Airtable base with item id, and sends the user an email with a link to their page through Sendgrid. We use a separate Integromat scenario to create an internal messaging system between hosts and potential renters.

What is a remix? When you remix a project on Makerpad, you’re submitting a project that relates to an existing project. You're trying to use the same Tools, copy and edit the functionality in new ways and/or show off what you can do with a similar system. So for example, the community submits a number of projects that are examples of doing specific things without code that you can remix to get started with your own projects. Currently there's no functionality for cloning the existing projects.
