In this tutorial we will show you how to dynamically create Google Docs using Zapier and Airtable.

What you'll need

  • Google Docs
  • Airtable
  • Zapier

First, head to Airtable and create a simple base with some columns containing some template data for an invoice.

Add in some dummy data, we'll use this as the info that we'll pass through to the Google Doc.

Next head into Google Docs. Find and select a template from the template gallery.

Open it and edit it to suit the information you want to pass through.

For each piece of data, you want to dynamically pull from Airtable, enter some placeholder text surrounded by two curly brackets. Example: {{firstName}}, {{lastName}} and so on.

This will let Zapier know that this is the info to replace with the info from Airtable.

Format to suit.

Now inside of Zapier, create a new Zap.

First step is Airtable. Select New Record. Connect Airtable and the Base. Test and continue.

Next select Google Docs as the Action. Select New Document from Template. Find and select your template that you just created. Press Continue.

Next, map across the fields from Airtable to match the Fields created below.

Press test and continue then head to Google Docs to check the document has been created with the desired info.
