A customer story from Makerpad

The kind of community that makes any idea feel possible.

Can you tell me a little bit about your background and general work experience?

I have been running a technical recruitment agency for the past 10 years. I actually started with a psychic’s degree, but it was ultimately wasn’t my path. I always wanted to work in sales, from a very young age I bought and sold things and had little businesses I would work on. I’m a non-technical founder.

What started your journey into no-code?

About four years ago I started to really look into how I could automate and systematise the operations and mundane aspects of my business. I started off with app-script. So, my interest started here, and then I started dabbling with other tools, which lead to me getting really into process automation.

Some examples, we used to pay for software to track our staff holidays and sick days, so I made an app in glide that could both manage and track sales progress and manage days off, including letting the team know who is away from work. All of our sales data, reporting, invoicing, payroll and contracts are either completely automated or work with custom built tools to allow the user to work much more efficiently.

Off the back of all that, I ended up consulting to other companies on how to build out and use these tools to automate and optimise the operations of their business. Plus, now I manage a no-code meetup group in London!

“I’m surprised by how willing the no-code community is to help you build, it’s a community that’s really focused on what you are building and how you are building it. It’s a hive mind of helpful people”

What have you found most surprising about the no-code community so far?

I’ve never experienced the level of responsiveness from a company like I have with the no-code tools. The platform providers are part of the community. The responsiveness and availability of the community and the people making the tools is not only encouraging but it means that any idea feels possible.

There are so many things that no-code makes easier, and so much support for anyone that wants to actually get in and build something.

What tools or platforms are you thinking of/ have been using for your no-code project?

Webflow or Carrd for anything visible. On the automation side, which is what I use day to day, I use google sheets and airtable, Integromat, Zapier and then whatever I’m interacting with. It’s project dependent – I’m currently working with a volume data project that’s using Hasura Graph QL, Integromat and DashDash.

Tell us about what you are working on at the moment?

As a part of the London meetup, I’m partnering with a local incubator to introduce and help educate new founders (even technical ones) on the way’s they can leverage no-code tools to make building a business and bringing a product to life easier. There will be a website launched for this soon but in the meantime feel free to follow me on twitter @NoCodeJac to keep in touch!
